There are a few different reasons why your Bookshelf application will not open. One possible reason is that your Desktop application profile is corrupted. Re-installing the application will unfortunately not fix this issue. Please follow these instructions to resolve your issue:

Go to the My Documents folder and locate the My Books folder. (Computer\Local Disk(C:)\Users\YourUserAccount\My Documents\My Books)

Locate and rename My Books to My Books Old.

Launch Vitalsource Bookshelf.

Enter your eVantage credentials and click Sign-In.
Instructions for MAC OS 10.6 or Later

Go to the My Documents folder and locate the My Books folder. (Macintosh HD\Users\YourUserAccount\Books)

Rename My Books to My Books Old.

Now go to your User Accounts Preference folder and delete the com.vitalsource.bookshelf.plist preference file. (MacintoshHD\Users\YourUserAccount\Library\Preferences)

Launch Vitalsource Bookshelf.

Enter your eVantage credentials and click Sign-In.
